What is animal reiki?

It’s essentially meditating with your animals. But in a broader sense, Reiki is a spiritual system cultivating compassionate intention, which in turn may bring about healing transformation. The practice of Reiki helps us navigate life’s challenges with grace and surrender while we to learn to listen to and be present for others in a compassionate space. Offering one’s self as a conduit through which energy can flow for the good of another is the single most powerful gift that one can give and receive.

During a Reiki session, animals often experience a deep state of peace as the Reiki clears imbalances, allowing for new and harmonious patterns of health and wellness to emerge. Physical contact is not a requirement for Reiki and the practitioner can offer Reiki to the animal hands off. This way, the animal controls the treatment, either accepting Reiki from a distance or settling themselves against the practitioners hands. Many people have unique experiences in connecting with and learning from the animals themselves.

Benefits of Reiki on your animal

Session guidelines

Prep a nice little comfy space for your animal

I’ll start the session by cleansing your animal’s aura, then I’ll place my hands on your animal’s body – if your animal allows me to, if not I’ll stay at a proper distance – and go over from chakra to chakra, front and back, and end the session by cleansing your animal’s aura one last time.

Throughout the session, if your animal gives me signs of where to put my hands though, I’ll definitely respect their wishes and listen carefully to their needs.

Make sure your animal drinks water after our session is done (and throughout the rest of your day)

Make sure your animal take the rest of their day slow and relax

Every animal is different, every session is different. I start by setting up the space, making sure it’s comfortable for the animal. Then I proceed to the session as I would do for any of my clients; with care and compassion.

With Dexter, every session is unique, but there’s always a lot of hugs and kisses.

There are insurance companies within Canada who offer Reiki as a paid benefit in their Extended Health Care package. The Canadian Reiki Association would like to offer our members an opportunity to provide clients with a professionally designed extended health claim form. Don't forget to ask for your CRA receipt for your insurance or taxes!

Reiki is priced per session and based on the length of each session. Standard, 30-minute sessions can cost anywhere between $40 and $70, whereas one-hour sessions are $65 to $100. As a Reiki practitioner, I will bring my resources to the comfort of your home,  clinic or shelter, to better ensure the openness of the animal to the process. Often the first one to two sessions are simply for the animal to gain comfort and trust.
